Fellowships
General Information
Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit welcomes
applications for visiting fellowships in Plastic Surgery for periods
ranging from one to three months. Visiting clinical fellowships are
financed either by the applicant or their home University or
Institution. Applications should include a covering letter, a recent
Curriculum Vitae detailing all experience to date, an indication of
the types of surgical procedures which have been previously learnt
by the applicant and an indication of what the applicant would
expect to learn and experience during their time at Canniesburn. Two
referees, including at least one of the applicant’s current or most
recent senior clinician, are required to provide confidential
references.

General medical council registration
All practising physicians in the United Kingdom are
required to be registered by the General Medical Council (GMC).
Applicants who have a medical degree from outside the European Union
may be required to pass an exam to determine their level of literacy
and medical knowledge (the PLAB exam) before they can perform the
duties of a physician or surgeon. Although it is possible to become
a Visiting Fellow at Canniesburn without GMC registration it is
essential if the applicant wishes an honorary contract with the
hospital and to participate in hands on clinical work.
