Microsurgical workshops are run on a continuous
basis throughout the year. During the course week, candidates are taught the basis of microvascular anatomosis
concentrating on conventional suturing methods. It is felt a minimum of ST1 or equivalent in a speciality needing microvascular
surgery training, is required
The workshops are practical, with every candidate having an up to
date operating microscope to operate on in vitro and in vivo vessels.
Tutors are always present. The course is taught in English. We
regret we cannot provide translation.
Accommodation
Bed and breakfast accommodation can be arranged. Hotels either in
Glasgow or in the vicinity will be booked if requested.
Course Fee
A week (Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm) at the
laboratory including all consumables (sutures, etc.) costs
£1,300. Food and accommodation are not included. There will be a
course dinner on Thursday evening.
Licence
A Personal Licence issued by the Home Office
permitting in vivo work, is an essential pre-requisite and takes at
least 6 weeks to arrange. The Home Office charges £226 for this
(this is inclusive in the £1,300 cost). Licences for microsurgical training are
only granted for the period of the course and are revoked
immediately thereafter. If through unforeseen circumstances you find
it necessary to re-arrange your booking to a later course, this can
be done by agreement (and provided there is room on a later course),
without incurring any extra charge, provided the move falls within
the financial year. Licence fees are payable annually and if the
licence is retained from May into June of any year, a second annual
fee becomes due.
